OK, so at long last I have decided to start a blog. I have been reading a few for a while, but this weekend I spent some time reading some adoption blogs that were encouraging to me and I decided it might be fun to share our process a bit.
So my husband Filipe and I are adopting a little girl from Guatemala. We are naming her Shiloh Hope and she is 3 months old. Is she not the cutest thing you have ever seen?
We tried to get pregnant for a few years, and reached a point where we felt like God was leading us to adopt a baby instead of pursuing other fertility options, and we couldn't be happier about it! We started the process in May '06 and it has been a long and difficult process. We've had some complications and hard times along the way, but we know that in the end, once she is in our arms, it will all be worth it!
We feel so blesses that God has chosen us to be a family to this little girl! We will definitely be a international family. We have laughed about how fun it will be to be able to tell our daughter "Daddy was born in Portugal, Mommy was born in America and you were born in Guatemala." And who knows what other nationalities God may add to our family before it is all over! My brother and sis-in-law are also adopting a little boy from Ethiopia.
As far as the process goes... right now we are waiting to get into family court (hopefully we are already in process and just don't know it yet) and waiting for the DNA testing. The DNA is a huge thing for us and our peace of mind because we have already lost a little girl because her DNA didn't match the DNA of the woman who brought her in. Be praying that we will soon be getting some good news!
